Project 5000 – 5000 km from Switzerland to the Northernmost Point of Europe within Record Time I had the idea to cycle from Lucerne to Norway.
The red line on Google Maps showed 5000 km and 36’000 Altitude Meters. To give you something to compare: This is 8 time from Lucerne to Paris and 12 times from Zermatt up to Matterhorn. Usually people do it in about 2-3 Months, my plan wanted to do it within 28 stages… I had no idea what to expect when setting off on 14. July 2013 in Lucerne. I had no idea how my legs will feel after 20 days in the saddle, if my equipment works out to reach my target, if I’m able to cycle 180 km per day on average regardless of rain, wind or heat. On the followings days I did huge steps out of my personal comfort zone – which were completely worth it: I had the pleasure to smell the resinous forests in south Sweden, to encounter reindeers in the Finish tundra but also to overcome enormous physical and mental challenges.
On the presentation I would like to share some insights from this cycling trip – to talk a bit about inspiration, experiences and how I could motivate myself again, again and again (and again).
